Our Project

01

Reduce the primary school dropout rate in Malawi

According to the UN report, the dropout rate among primary school students in Malawi is as high as 60%, and English proficiency affects the learning of other subjects.

English Reading Workshop

During the primary school term, we hold English reading workshops every two weeks for fifth graders. Fifth grade is a critical period for students to switch from their mother tongue Chichewa to full English classes, but more than half of the students cannot read English.

In response to this situation, we designed lesson plans focusing on vocabulary and grammar, hoping that students can learn to understand simple English in the workshop.

Set up a reading space

If you want to learn English well, you must develop the habit of reading English books regularly, but there is no good reading space in Chiputula Primary School. In order to provide a good space, we need to classify the existing books, establish a management system, and plan the use of space to provide a good reading space for students and even community members.

Establish a local volunteer team
Volunteer.HEIC

In order to maintain the quality of the workshops, we recruit local community members and university students to form a fixed volunteer team. We also hold volunteer training workshops before each regular workshop to help volunteers understand the organization's goals and work precautions, in order to provide high-quality workshops and a team atmosphere.

Taiwan-Malawi Exchange Program

Given that Taiwanese society and college students have very few opportunities to understand Africa, most people’s understanding of Africa is limited to news reports, and carries the impression of poverty, danger, and unfamiliarity. Therefore, we hope to promote exchanges between Taiwan and Malaysia through the following activities.

Societies

We have set up a club on campus and plan to hold six club classes per semester to help students get to know Malawi better. At the same time, we will work with the African Student Association on campus to create opportunities for Taiwanese students to interact with African international students, make friends with each other, and learn more about Africa.

Exhibition

By setting up an exhibition area on campus, we share educational issues related to Malawi, and hope that through our team experience, we can break the stereotypes and fear of the unknown of Africans among Taiwanese people and bring us closer together.

Fundraising

In order to ensure the sustainability of the organization, we are currently in the process of fundraising to obtain more resources to carry out the existing workshop and library projects and to continue to launch activities in the future.
